Overall, from what I got from the reading was this: the transition from traditional "paper" reading to digital reading is confusing the hell out of readers.
As stated in Clive Thompson's On the Future of Reading in the Digital World "Books are the last bastion of the old business model—the only major medium that still hasn't embraced the digital age." Publishers are almost latching on to keeping books from becoming digital, when the efforts should made to converge books into the digital age.
One of the main arguments that have hindered the big social push to move books into becoming fully digitial is the "reader's experience" which is referenced not only the readings for today, but throughout the readers that we have had in this course. Basically, if book readership were to move more towards being digital, we would lose that sense of solitude or connection that we create with the traditional novel. Typically when people are reading a book, it is in a confide space where the reader is solely focused on immersing themselves. With the move towards the digital age there is also the inclusion of readable comments from other readers. So understandably, the "reader experience" would be ruined if they could not formulate their own thoughts and opinions about the piece of text if they are constantly being influenced by other reader's comments.
Maybe it is just me being a milenial, but I believe the move towards a digital readership would be a beautiful thing. By the creating of digital text, we are not excluding those who want that "reader experience" by we are expanding the scope of the audience to many readers. So not only can we cater to those looking for the traditional solitary, but also other readers such the social reader who loves to read with others.
