Transmedia, a fancy word meaning story telling through different media forms.
See? Now you're an expert.
We see examples of transmedia work in our every day lives, whether it is films like The Matrix discussed in Henry Jenkin's article Convergence Culture or even in literature, such as comic book characters like Superman and Batman. We love to be lost in these fictional worls.
This is one of the main reasons why Transmedia works so well. While The Matrix was able to tell its story across different mediums successfully, it was not necessarily well recieved. A franchise that I believe has utilized transmedia far better than The Matrix is.......can you guess it? Well, here's a hint....

Well I will have to admit that I'm not the more knowledgeable when it comes to all facades of what the Star Wars universe, I do believe however that the Star Wars franchise is a more successful example of transmedia, if not the most successful. From the main films, to the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and even a successful string of video games such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic this franchise has been able to utilize a multitude of medium in order to tell stories from all over its universe. The wonderful thing about this franchise? As Jenkin's discusses in his article, one does not need to watch the films in order to enjoy the television series, or even the video games. They are all standalone titles that allows those who would like to enjoy them, they do not have to research the entire Star Wars universe. With the recent success of the franchise's new game Star Wars: Battlefront and Star Wars: Episode VI, there is no signs of the Star Wars franchise to continue to successfully use transmedia.
