Please raise your hands if you have felt personally victimized by s****y sequels?

Good, well I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. In Karen Swallow Prior's article The New, Old Way to Tell Stories: With Input From the Audience addresses the fascination and innovation that is happening in storytelling called transmedia (hm, sounds familiar).

However, before we get into the wonders of what transmedia is, Prior sheds light on the actual darkness and pain that plagues pop culture lovers like me: sequels And yes prequels, we are looking at you too. She states in article that the influx of products "such as paintings, fans, prints, playing cards, and waxworks; and the publication of various knockoffs, parodies, and sequels" have littered pop culure enthusist pockets and time. For example, it there really a need to have a "22 Jump Street?" The movie even satirist their own industry by offering audience an endless possibilities of sequels that can be created from the Jump Street franchise. Some of these sequels included but are not limited to:

With transmedia storytelling, atrocious things such as this as well as 80943274230 seasons of The Real World do not have to plague pop culture by its linear storytelling. With transmedia storytelling, we would be able to create rich storytelling that not only involve the audience, but also engage them in order to further add rich content to their favorite universe. As Prior says "People who love stories want to have a piece of that story that is theirs... It’s a way of messaging to people that it’s something that they love and are passionate about, and it’s a way of starting a conversation with other people who might be fans, or a way of expressing something about themselves." Even more engaging than people who love a good story are those who are able to personally identify with that story. What universe could exemplify such appeal?

That is right. Not only are lovers of the Harry Potter franchise emotionally invested with all aspects of the universe from the characters to the story, but they have also gone to extreme lengths to personally identify and ultimately, become a "wizard." With the completion of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios as well as the online world of Pottermore.

I mean, what could be more inticing introduction from J.K. Rowling as well as the button "Begin Your Journey"?
